Tarynn Character Album by SimonLorimer Tarynn Character Album by SimonLorimer
Bit of a ramble ahead!

Been thinking a lot about voices since I did that faux character album for Subeta. It's not something we think about a lot given Felarya is expressed almost exclusively in a visual medium. In a Japanese anime, I wouldn't hesitate to chose little known voice actress Rieka Yazawa (… to voice Tarynn after her performance as Kon Futaba - strong, low and with frustration seeping into various words. To get a feel for her voice try watching Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru, and listen to her joint performances in… and…

So, to the character album! Although I like her voice in those songs they aren't the tracks I would choose to feature. Instead, I would choose a song by Mariko Honda from Nichijou and by Miyuki Sawashiro from Arakawa Under The Bridge. As character albums tend to only have four songs, two being karaoke versions, it would look something like this:

1.… - Tarynn no Gag Hyaku Renpatsu
2.… - Title Nante Jibun de Kangaenasai na
3.… - Tarynn no Gag Hyaku Renpatsu (Off Vocal)
4. Title Nante Jibun de Kangaenasai na (Off Vocal) (Can't find a copy)

The inherent anger and frustration of those songs suit Tarynn to a tee. Just imagine those being sung by Rieka Yazawa, with the lyrics suitably changed and the Miyuki Sawashiro number extended, and that's the album! Please, tell me what voices you envisage for your characters - I'd love to know!

(Bigger fullsize picture here - - was pretty happy with the way this came out, along with a new shading trick for hair I picked up)
Felarya belongs to :iconkarbo:

//Edit: Spruced this up in a number of areas for the wiki - the colouring, lineart and anatomy! Here's a copy of the fullsize depiction of her - (Also, if you're interested, I've started to picture her English singing voice sounding like Shirley Manson of Garbage fame... But not her speaking voice, not sure how I'd feel about the Scottish accent!)

Huh, I missed this one the first time around, and I must admit I did a double-take when I saw Globfish in the comments.  Then I saw the date.  :XD:

Anywho, this is a very interesting premise overall, and now that you mention it, I do 'picture' my characters speaking in a very distinct fashion that probably doesn't quite fully translate to the written word.  I may just have to do a 'my characters sound kinda like-' journal at some point, so thanks for the inspiration.  :D

. . .

Oh right!  The picture is fantastic as usual, with a wonderful sense of motion (even if she's not enjoying it) and your trademark lively expressiveness I've come to expect.  Great work!  :D
Wow no fair! XD you leave and get even better! hahaha just when I thought I couldn't love Tarynn more and you do this to me! XD No fair! No fair!

I love the angle of the picture, nice job.
I for some reason picture something similar to Azula's voice from avatar... Try and picture that tone, but spoken in a not Azula way... XD

I pictured her voice a biiiiit deeper that those songs.
I know, I've had second thoughts since then! Still trying to find someone with that right level of angry gravel stuck in their throat as her speaking voice - all I can say is she would sing exactly like Shirley Manson, lead singer of Garbage ;)

Well, in that one comic of yours, Crisis DID say Tarynn sonds "so miserable", so maybe something would fit! And jeez for Christ's sake, don't put Katy Perry, Tarynn has gravel in her throat, but sandpaper? Katy's speciallity!

Hehe- this is great, this is! I'm loving the completely off guard look in her eyes and her mouth! You're really good at capturing poses and making them look believable. This picture has a lot of fluidness and also, off course, shows off a lot of her character and not-so-great luck! I, in particular, really love the way you've done her hair. Those lines are really smooth and make the hair look as though it is really flying back from her face in strands. This is one of your best, I'd say- really lovely work!
And also- I love the GREEN-NESS!!:boing:
Ah, you really are too kind! Every bit of this comment warmed me up like a shot of whisky :D Thank you so much for the feedback!
I think this is a funny idea, although I must confess I don't really get the whole voices thing. :XD: Don't take this the wrong way, but... why are they all in Japanese? Do you imagine your characters speaking Japanese? I mean, I know your style is manga, but isn't that style rather well-travelled by now? Saying that it's manga and therefore has to be Japanese seems to me like saying that it's pizza and therefore we must be eating it in Italy. :p

Not that there's anything wrong with the Japanese voices, I'm just surprised and interested to know why you came up with those, as opposed to English ones. I personally always imagine my characters speaking English, even though the actual language they speak is probably a non-existent one. xD

The actual picture is great. You get a sense of movement and personality across, and you do seem to have a bit of a talent for quite unorthodox poses. :p
